n1lab can't tell you if a food or diet is safe for you.
Before a food trial
Ever had a fast reaction after a food, like hives, swelling, trouble breathing or feeling faint? A mild one counts too. Or has a doctor told you to avoid a food?
Then don't run a trial on that food. Ask your doctor about that food.
Emergency signs can include:
- trouble breathing, wheezing or a cough that won't stop;
- a hoarse voice, or a swollen tongue or throat;
- feeling faint or dizzy.
With any one of these, follow your action plan if you have one. Then call an ambulance: 000 in Australia, or your local emergency number.
Before you cut out foods
Ever had an eating disorder? Ask your doctor before you cut out foods.
When to stop
Stop the diet and talk to your doctor if, for example:
- you feel anxious, guilty or ashamed about food;
- you keep cutting out more foods than your protocol asks;
- you lose weight suddenly;
- you think about food most of the day, or avoid eating with others.
In Australia, the Butterfly Foundation's helpline is 1800 33 4673. In a crisis, call Lifeline on 13 11 14, or 000 if a life is in danger.
Check with your practitioner or doctor before you change what you eat or take.
